What is the unit-wise weightage for Class 10 Maths in 2026-27?
Most students revise Maths chapter by chapter, in book order. The paper is not built that way. CBSE assigns marks by unit, and the units are very unequal — the heaviest is more than three times the lightest. Here is the official course structure for the 2026-27 session.

Which chapters sit inside each unit?
This is where most weightage articles go wrong, so read the caption carefully: CBSE publishes marks per unit, not per chapter. Any article giving you an exact mark for “Quadratic Equations” has estimated it. What you can rely on is the unit total and which chapters share it — that is enough to rank your revision honestly.

Read that as a ranking rather than a list. Algebra and Geometry together are 35 of the 80 marks — nearly half the paper from six chapters. Add Trigonometry and you are at 47 out of 80 from eight chapters. Six chapters, well prepared, decide more of your result than the other eight combined.
How is the paper actually built?
Weightage tells you which chapters. The question paper design tells you what kind of thinking the marks reward — and this is where Standard and Basic genuinely differ.

The number that should change how you revise: in Standard Maths, 37 of the 80 marks — 46% — sit above plain recall, in Applying, Analysing, Evaluating and Creating. In Basic it is 20 marks, or 25%. A Standard student who revises by re-reading solved examples is preparing for the wrong half of the paper.
Standard or Basic — does the weightage change?
No. The unit-wise marks are identical in both papers, and so is the syllabus. What changes is the difficulty and the typology mix in the table above. Basic is not a shorter course; it is the same course examined with more recall and fewer twists.
The practical consequence: a Basic student can afford to be thorough rather than clever, while a Standard student must practise unfamiliar situations — the question they have not seen before, not the one they have.
Where do students actually lose marks in Maths?

None of these are conceptual failures. They are marks lost while knowing the answer — which makes them the cheapest ones to win back, and the reason a chapter-level diagnosis beats a general sense of “I’m weak at Maths”.
How should you plan the last three weeks?
- Rank the seven units by marks and score yourself out of ten on each. Two columns, one page.
- Start where marks are high and confidence is low. For most students that is Algebra or Trigonometry — not the chapter that feels hardest.
- Practise on paper, not in your head. Maths is recalled through the hand; reading a solved example is not revision.
- Five full solutions beat twenty skimmed ones. Write every step you would write in the exam, including the statement of the formula.
- If you are sitting Standard, spend a third of your time on unseen problems — that is what 46% of the paper is testing.
- Keep the last three days for revision only. No new chapter after that point.

These are the most protectable marks in the subject and the easiest to give away — usually by submitting the activity file late. They are awarded by your school across the year, not in March.
How do you know which chapters are actually weak?
Most students guess, and most guess wrong: the chapter that feels hardest is often not the one leaking marks. A short, chapter-tagged diagnostic settles it in about fifteen minutes — twenty questions across the heaviest chapters, then a map showing which are green, amber and red.
It will not predict your exact mark, and it does not pretend to. What it gives you is the order to revise in, which is the only thing weightage alone cannot tell you.
